DEVELOPMENT OF A DOUBLE OCTAVE BANDWIDTH TRAVELING-WAVE TUBE AMPLIFIER.

Abstract

The purpose of the program is the attainment of lownoise amplification over two octaves in a single travelingwave tube. Noise figure is to be less than 6 db from 2.0 to 8.0 Gc, with a minimum of ten milliwatts saturated power output. The work described in this report has been aimed primarily at reducing rf losses that occur in the input, since these losses add directly to the noise figure of the amplifier. These losses result from rf radiation at the pin seal, and from the insertion loss of presently available dc returns. The cathode coating has also been investigated. Two new cathode binder materials were evaluated with no significant effect upon noise figure of the amplifier. (Author)
