OPHIOPLUTEUS RAMOSUS BETWEEN ICELAND AND NEWFOUNDLAND,

Abstract

Since the initiation in September 1959 of sampling by the Continuous Plankton Recorder between Iceland and Newfoundland, information has been gained on the periodic appearance of warm-water species in the plankton of this area. The occurrence of the ophiuroid larva Ophiopluteus ramosus along this route suggests some interesting aspects of the biology of this larva of which the adult is unknown. O. ramosus has previously been reported from south of Iceland and the vicinity of Flemish Cap in the spring and summer.
