ANTITANK WEAPON SYSTEM APPLICATION OF IMPULSE CONTROL AND SEMIACTIVE HOMING

Abstract

A supporting research program was initiated at Frankford Arsenal to examine a weapon system concept, known as POLCAT, which utilizes semiactive homing and terminal projectile control. The ultimate objective of this work was to demonstrate the functional feasibility of the POLCAT system by firing projectiles from a gun and correcting their trajectories into an illuminated target by operation of projectile guidance and control elements. This information serves to support current work being conducted by Frankford Arsenal in the development of weapon systems which utilize semiactive homing and terminal projectile control.
