EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES OF THE ARCTIC D-REGION.

Abstract

This report describes the status of the research programme undertaken in Normany to study the polar Dregion. This is concentrated on studies of the high latitude particles and the different effects of these on the ionosphere. A rocket range has been established at Andoya in Northern Norway, and the facilities at this range have been gradually built up. A propagation technique has been used successfully in electron density and collision frequency observations by means of rockets. Integrated rocket payloads carrying many related experiments in the same payload have been launched, and extensive ground-based observations undertaken. (Author)
