TAPE-RECORDER SKEW COMPENSATION DURING PLAYBACK,

Abstract

Typical characteristics of tape-recorder skew at low tape speeds are described, and the effect of skew on the correlation of signals from separate tracks is discussed. Specifications for a skew-correction device are obtained from measured data and used as design criteria. A prototype skew corrector was constructed, and block diagrams of its circuits are presented and discussed. It is shown that skew variations can be corrected to =0.5 mu s at tape speeds as low as 7.5 inches per second. (Author)
