SURVEY OF SOME SYSTEMATIC PROPERTIES OF THE NUCLEAR ELECTRIC DIPOLE TRANSITION PROBABILITY,

Abstract

The single-particle estimate for the electromagnetic transition probabilities is summarized. A classification of the electric dipole transitions with measured rates is proposed, as a function of the kind of nucleus and levels involved. The spread of the reduced transition probabilities within a number of classes is small. A detailed discussion of the experimental data and of the relevant nuclear models is given.
