FAR INFRARED SPECTRA OF SELECTED CRYSTALS.
Abstract
The report is concerned with the techniques and results of an experimental study of the far infrared spectra of selected crystals at room temperature and in the neighborhood of liquid helium temperature. The spectral range in question was between 35 and 690/cm (285 and 14.5 microns) and both reflection and transmission data were obtained. The crystals examined included germanium, silicon, quartz, sapphire, calcium fluoride, strontium fluoride, barium fluoride, sodium chloride, sodium fluoride, lithium fluoride, cesium iodide, cesium bromide, and magnesium oxide. The data were obtained using a modified Perkin-Elmer 201-C Far Infrared Spectrometer and a Hofman Research Dewar. The reflection data were obtained at 45 degrees incidence. The polarization of the spectrometer was measured and a Kramers-Kronig analysis of some of the data was carried out. (Author)
