OXYGEN EXCHANGE RATES OFF THE OREGON COAST,

Abstract

A subsurface oxygen maximum is formed in summer as the water temperature rises, as a result of loss of oxygen above the layer in which the maximum occurs. Rates of oxygen exchange and eddy diffusivities are estimated. The exchange coefficient is of the same order of magnitude as that found by Redfield in the Gulf of Maine. (Author)
