ENZYMIC OXIDATION OF 5-HYDROXYTRYPTAMINE BY PIG SERUM,

Abstract

The oxidation of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) by pig serum was studied. Fractionation of the serum proteins showed that 5-HT is not a substrate of the amine oxidase present in the serum; its oxidation is catalysed by caeruloplasmin, the copper-containing protein of plasma. (Author)
