PHOTODISINTEGRATION OF THE DEUTERON BY POLARIZED PHOTONS,

Abstract

The asymmetry in the photodisintegration of the deuteron by polarized photons has been measured between photon energies of 75 and 230 MeV. Measurements are made mostly at 90 degrees in the center of mass system, but limited data at 45 degrees and 135 degrees are also obtained. The data below 140 MeV are compared with current theories. At 90 degrees our results are generally smaller than theoretical calculations. The measured asymmetry changes sign at about 130 MeV and shows a backward peaking at the high energy points. (Author)
