ULTRASONIC FLAW DETECTOR,

Abstract

The object of the invention is a ultrasonic flaw detector (for example, for the control of welded seams) in which an ultrasonic beam is directed at an angle to the surface of the article being inspected. The flaw detector utilizes two emitters with obliquely placed piezoelements symmetrically oriented with respect to both sides of the seam being examined and a switching device for periodic, alternate switching of the piezoelements as emitter or receiver of ultrasonic oscillations such that each piezoelement receives both its own radiation reflected from the seam and also radiation from the second cap passing through the seam being tested.
