SOME REFLECTIONS ON A SURVEY OF RESEARCH PROBLEMS IN COMPUTER SOFTWARE,

Abstract

After a brief discussion of the role of software in computer usage, the Memorandum presents the views of some workers in the software field on appropriate directions and emphases for software research. The problems stated here concern the development of computer languages and representations, the efficiency of the programming and translation processes, and the environment in which programmers and programs interact. There is an extensive discussion of the key problem of making computers accessible to the non-professional user. (Author)
