Abstract

This report summarizes snow removal techniques, status of knowledge in this field as of 1960, and future considerations. During the winter of 1958-59, a comprehensive survey of snow and ice removal practices at eight Air Force bases, thirteen state highway departments, and one R.C.A.F. base in Canada was made. During JanMarch 1960, a similar survey was made in six European countries. Mechanical, chemical, and thermal methods of snow removal are discussed and extensive data are given on various types of snow and ice removal equipment. (Author)
