Abstract

Monomeric cyclopentadienylcobalt dicarbonyl, C5H5Co(CO)2, reacts readily with iodine in diethyl ether solution at room temperature evolving carbon monoxide and precipitating black crystalline cyclopentadienylcobalt carbonyl diiodide, C5H5CoCOI2 (Anal.: Calcd.: C, 17.8; H, 1.2; Co, 14.5; I, 62.5; O, 3.9; mol. wt., 406. Found: C, 18.3; H, 1.3; Co, 14.6; I, 63.2; O, 3.0; mol. wt., 398 (osmometer in benzene solution)).
