ON THE CONTACT ANGLE IN HETEROGENEOUS NUCLEATION UPON A SUBSTRATE,

Abstract

The dependence of the nucleation rate equation on the contact angle parameter theta is analyzed for heterogeneous nucleation from vapor or from liquid. It is shown that externally imposed constraints lead to three types of solution for theta: (a) no real solution, (b) one real solution, and (c) two real solutions, the last of which has not been considered heretofore. The physical significance of each case is considered. A comparison is made with available experimental data. (Author)
