A TRIAXIAL EXPERIMENT ON YIELD CONDITION IN PLASTICITY

Abstract

A triaxial stress experiment was developed for the determination of the intersections of the initial and subsequent yield surfaces with a hydrostatic stressprincipal stress plane. Results of an experiment on Nittany Brass No. 2 of the soft grade were reported. Information so obtained makes it possible for one to see the yield condition in the sense of a three dimensional surface rather than a two dimensional curve as observed in conventional biaxial stress tests.
