THE USE OF NOMOGRAPHY IN THE SOLUTION OF BEAM-COLUMN PROBLEMS,

Abstract

The pertinent set of conditions for a buckling column when the nature of the equilibrium changes may be expected to include the column length, shape of cross section, mechanical properties of the material, compressive load, and end moment. One of these is selected as an independent parameter while the others are taken as constant for the analysis. The equilibrium configuration is determined for several values of the parameter and sets of curves are obtained by plotting values of parameters against typical displacements or distortions of the deformed column.
