BALLISTIC CORRELATION ALTITUDES FOR REENTRY WINDS AND NONSTANDARD AIR DENSITIES.

Abstract

The memorandum gives the results of a limited analysis of typical rawinsonde data made to determine if there is an altitude or pressure level at which the density and wind correlate with total ballistic densities and winds. This analysis was made for two theoretical ballistic missiles, having typical re-entry shapes, and employed 100 individual rawinsondes, representing all months of the year, obtained at stations representing wide geographic distribution.
