CYCLOTRON WAVE DEVICES,

Abstract

The different types of electron beam waves are discussed and illustrated by examples of mechanical waves. The concept of positive and negative energy is introduced and its relationship to active and passive coupling investigated. The low-noise Adler tube and the diftron tube are described, as well as several possibilities of using transverse wave tubes as high-efficiency amplifiers. The use of these schemes in current microwave applications is discussed. (Author)
