PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF WIND-TUNNEL TESTS OF THE HS-2 HYDROSKIMMER.

Abstract

Investigations were made in a wind tunnel to determine a hull configuration for augmenting the lift and improving the overall performance of a ground effect machine (GEM). The aerodynamic properties of a thick airfoil section with boundary-layer control and different geometrical configurations for the craft were studied in preliminary tests. Parameters established in these tests were used to construct a model for testing in ground effect. Preliminary results and performance predictions for a GEM craft with lift augmentation are presented. (Author)
