DEVELOPMENT OF A LOW-NOISE MILLIMETERWAVE PARAMETRIC AMPLIFIER.

Abstract

Room-temperature impedance measurements made on several subminiature surface-barrier varactors with etched substrate surfaces indicate a significant improvement in performance at 90 Gc over that previously obtained with larger diodes having unetched substrates. However, the resulting cut-off frequencies of the etched varactors are still well below the value required for gain at 90 Gc. A breadboard 94-Gc amplifier mount has been fabricated that exhibits low loss at the signal and pump frequencies. Further tests on this amplifier cannot be made until a higher cut-off frequency diode is available. (Author)
