STUDYING THE OXIDATION KINETICS AND STRUCTURE OF OXIDES OF CERTAIN HIGHMELTING METALS,

Abstract

An investigation was made of the kinetics of oxidation of niobium and tungsten in basic state and after saturating same with silicon and titanium. The phase composition of oxides, forming in the process of oxidation in a wide range of temperatures is discussed. The oxidation mechanism is based on diffusion processes, including the formation of oxides, diffusion of oxygen through the oxide layer into the depth of the metal with change in oxide lattice parameters and in parameters of oxidized metal, and the deceleration or acceleration of rate of oxidation.
