STEADY-STATE ROCKET COMBUSTION OF GASEOUS HYDROGEN AND LIQUID OXYGEN. PART I. EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION

Abstract

Combustion of gaseous hydrogen and liquid oxygen was studied experimentally under rocket conditions in an uncooled transparent-walled two- dimensional combustion chamber which simulated a 1-inch-wide diametrical section of a conventional cylindrical rocket combustor. Tests were made with three injector types using hydrogen chilled to simulate regenerative rocket engine injection temperatures. Photographic data were obtained which yielded considerable qualitative insight and quantitative information concerning the propellant combustion processes.
