AUTOMATION PROGRESS AT RSIC: THE STATUS OF ALPHA 1

Abstract

Progress report on ALPHA 1, the first study on an automated literature processing, handling, and analysis system. The system is devised to give information about the patron of the information center and about its holdings: books, periodicals, and documents. There are a patron tape record, arrayed by order of social security number, and master records for periodicals, books, and documents. Activities in the system include recording and circulation of periodicals, circulation of books, binding of printed material, ordering and receiving books, producing accession lists, and the selective dissemination of information.
