A POSSIBLE U.S. POLICY TOWARDS INDIAN TRANSPORTATION: AN ILLUSTRATION OF IMPROVED SECTORAL POLICIES,

Abstract

A discussion is presented of the merits of the sectoral approach as a supplement to present AID methods in assessing the amount and kind of assistance to be given to less-developed countries. It is concluded that more sectoral studies are needed, and shows how useful sectoral policies can be developed by applying existing economic theory to critical issues in the allocation of resources within a sector. The method is illustrated by a suggested U.S. policy towards Indian transportation. (Author)
