Abstract

The crystal structure of the compounds KAu5 and RbAu5 were determined. Both compounds have the hexagonal CaCu5 type structure, space group D1 - P6/mmm with one formula weight in the unit cell. The lattice constants 6h for KAu5 are a = 5.659 A, c=4.483 A and for RbAu5 a = 5,760 A, c = 4.448 A. Contrary to former statements the formulae of these compounds are KAu5 and RbAu5 and not KAu4 and RbAu4. (Author)
