INTRODUCTION TO THE DENSITY MATRIX,

Abstract

General properties of the density matrix are summarized. These properties are illustrated by examples such as electron spin, photon polarization, two-level maser, polarization of coupled spins, scattering of quantum mechanical systems, Dirac's density matrix, and Bloch's equation.
