WIRELINE DATA TRANSMISSION,

Abstract

A general review of high speed data transmission over common carrier voice channel facilities is presented. Many of the problems arising due to the special nature of the medium are considered and result in recommendations for future data transmission systems. A few specific illustrative systems are discussed to indicate trends in system design. Relevant developments are also reported, as well as areas seemingly worthy of considerable further development.
