DEVELOPMENT OF SUB-STRATOSPHERE PRESSURE SUITS IN THE GERMAN AIR FORCE

Abstract

A translation is given of a summary of the development of pressure suits at the Draegerwerke, Luebeck, Germany, during World War II under contracts with the German Air Force. The German Air Force sponsored the development of heavy sub-stratosphere pressure suits but was primarily interested in the use of pressure cabins. It was interested in the development of a light-weight automatic operating, non-interfering pressure suit for use as an emergency device in case of cabin pressure loss at high altitudes.
