ANALYSIS OF BREAKING ATMOSPHERIC WAVES.

Abstract

The basic partial differential equations are derived for an atmospheric gravity wave at the internal interface of a two layer, incompressible model. The model has a parabolic, non-rotating lower boundary. These equations are numerically integrated by the method of characteristics for various values of two parameters which govern the shape of the parabolic lower boundary. An analysis is made for the effects of the modeling parameters on the point at which the wave begins to break.
