ULTIMATE CAPACITY OF STEEL COLUMNS LOADED BIAXIALLY,

Abstract

The problem was to theoretically predict the ultimate capacity of columns loaded biaxially, i.e., columns subjected to an axial load plus terminal bending moments about two principal axes of the cross-section. The material was mild steel and the cross-section was a hollow, square, thin-sided box. The plastic theory with its failure criterion of overlapping shapes was used.
