THE PREDICTION-EVASION PROBLEM IN ASW: A THEORETICAL APPROACH,

Abstract

This report presents a theoretical study of the prediction-evasion problem existing between a destroyer and a possibily hostile submarine, after sonar contact has been established but before any weapons have been deployed. The analysis culminates in the evaluation of strategies which are in a sense optimal for both participants simultaneously. The technique lends itself to the analysis of other tactical situations not considered here. (Author)
