THE CRYSTAL STRUCTURE OF 2,7-DIACETOXYTRANS-15,16-DIMETHYL-15,16-DIHYDROPYRENE,

Abstract

The crystal is monoclinic P2(1)/a. At room temperature a=20.07, b=7.56, c=5.88 A, beta=96.52, Z=2, formula C22O4H20. The structure was determined from a three-dimensional Patterson synthesis, and refined by least-squares procedures. Two sets of intensity data were used independently. One was collected at room temperature with the use of a scintillation counter; the other was recorded on Weissenberg photographs at - 130C, and estimated visually. The 14 peripheral atoms of the pyrene nucleus are approximately coplanar, and appear to form an aromatic system. (Author)
