Abstract

A brief review is given of the objectives, successes and failures of psychological testing through World War II. The First World War demonstrated the value of general intelligence tests; the second showed that still better prediction could be obtained by proper use of additional tests of special aptitudes. Some thirty distinct special aptitudes have been recognized and a beginning has been made with classifying MOS in groups according to the patterns of special aptitudes involved in them.
