AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE STABILITY OF PROCESS CAPABILITY FOR JOB LOT MANUFACTURING.

Abstract

The study was made to collect the data and information necessary to make a decision about the stability of process capability in the generation of external lengths on engine lathes. Each set of data is obtained so that a statistical test can determine the significant contribution of operator skill level, machine condition, type of tolerance specified, and the nominal dimension in the range between 0.020 in to 0.522 in. All other factors in the processes will be held constant. The objective was to draw a statistical conclusion about the stability of the process capability in the range between 0.020 in to 0.522 in. A conclusion was also made as to the contribution of operator, machine, and type of tolerance to the inherent variation of the process.
