A SURVEY OF TOPSIDE SOUNDING OF THE IONOSPHERE,

Abstract

Topside sounding experiments have been conducted using rocket-borne fixed-frequency sounders in June and October 1961, and a sweep-frequency topside sounder in the satellite 1962 Beta Alpha One (Alouette) launched 29 September 1962. This paper reviews the techniques of topside sounding, and some of the more significant results obtained from these experiments. (Author)
