SYNCHRO-TO-TAPE-TO-SYNCHRO CONVERTER.

Abstract

The problem: Design and develop an equipment that will encode synchro data into a form suitable for recording on magnetic tape, and that will also accept the encoded signals during playback and convert them to the original synchro form. Results: A synchro-to-tapeto-synchro (STSC) converter has been developed. It provides a simple and reliable means of recording radar antenna azimuth synchro data for reproduction at a later time, or for real time encoding and decoding of synchro signals. The input-output processing accuracy is within =0.5 degree. The STSC unit works well with a 15-kc/s-bandwidth recording medium. It operates in only one direction, and its incremental output is 0.357 degree (1008 steps per revolution). During the playback mode of operation, the STSC will detect magnetic tape dropouts or false data and correct itself accordingly. (Author)
