MODIFICATION OF THE TECH/OPS PHOTOMETRIC MEASUREMENT ASSEMBLIES.

Abstract

Four Tech/OPs photometric assemblies, consisting of photometers, radiometers, and radiometrically calibrated cameras, have been modified. The twelvechannel photometer has been improved by the addition of two filters for measuring the irradiance in ultraviolet N2 Second Positive bands. The near-infrared photometer was fitted with a six-position interference filter wheel to permit observation of some of the N2 First Positive bands and OI permitted lines; in addition, its S-1 surface photomultiplier was enclosed in a thermoelectric refrigerator. The infrared radiometer now has a four-position filter wheel, and the temperature of its PbS photoconductive cell is monitored by a thermistor thermometer. De Havilland Mark 7A 35-mm datarecording cameras (with 100-ft magazines and flexible shutter programming) fitted with lenses having 108 degree circular fields replace the Nikon cameras and 77 degree lenses formerly used. All equipment has been made compatible with the mechanical mounts, windows, electrical power, and data-recording arrangements of the two Air Force KC-135 aircraft in which it will eventually be used.
