ISOTOPIC DIFFERENCES IN THE MU-MESIC K X-RAY ENERGIES OF 016 -018, CA40-CA44, SN116-SN124, GD155-GD160.

Abstract

The isotope differences in the mu-mesic K x-ray energies of 016-018, Ca40-Ca44, Sn116-Sn124, Gd155-Gd160 were measured in order to obtain information about the change in the radius of the nuclear proton distribution as the neutron number is increased. The essential feature of the experimental method is the simultaneous measurement of the spectra of the two isotopes by means of a conventional NaI(Tl) crystal gamma-ray spectrometer. Great care was taken to avoid any bias or non-statistical errors in measurements and analysis by treating the two isotope targets in an exactly similar fashion.
