PERFORMANCE IN THE PRE-FLIGHT WATER SURVIVAL COURSE AS A PREDICTOR OF SUCCESS IN FLIGHT TRAINING.

Abstract

The water survival course grades of 1300 Pre-Flight students were analyzed to determine the utility of these grades as predictors of eventual completion or failure in the flight training program. The Wherry-Doolittle method of test selection was used to evaluate two performance measures from the course: Mid-Course grade and the Swin-Hold status. Results indicate that both these measures make small but statistically significant contributions to the validity of the multiple predictor. There is evidence .at the value of the water survival course as a predictor derives more from a student's initial ability as a swimmer than from his progress in the course. (Author)
