SEGMENT FITTING OF CURVES IN PATTERN ANALYSIS USING CHAIN CORRELATION.

Abstract

This report is concerned with the problem of using a digital computer to fit a given curve to a similarshaped section of a larger curve, provided such a section exists. This is the so-called segment-fitting problem. The approach toward its solution described here makes use of the method of chain correlation and is applicable only where the scale and orientation of the curves are fixed. Results based on actual computer tests are given and the sources of error are examined. (Author)
