RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM FOR X-BAND CROSSED-FIELD AMPLIFIER.

Abstract

The first tubes have been constructed and the first hot RF tests have been performed. Although beam synchronism was achieved at some frequencies, the interaction was weak and the gain was poor. No overall gain was achieved because of the high RF attenuation which resulted as the delay line and RF contacts deteriorated during tube operation. Measures for avoiding this deterioration are being incorporated into succeeding tubes. In addition, improvements in the delay line regularity are being made in order to improve the line to beam coupling, and therefore, the interaction.
