NOTES ON THE SIMPLEX MODELS IN THE STUDY OF MULTICOMPONENT MIXTURES,

Abstract

The theory is developed from basic analytical geometry and presents a systematic approach to the study of binary and ternary mixtures. Topics include: definition of the simplex, simplex coordinate systems, properties and applications of the coordinate systems, simplex to simplex, and simplex to Cartesian coordinate transformations; linear and nonlinear simplex models for the study of binary and ternary mixtures, the contour problem solved in terms of the nonlinear models, a program to plot the desired contours of ternary systems, statistical studies involving nonlinear models, and relation of simplex models to the thermodynamic properties of multicomponent mixtures.
