ELECTRON EMISSION AND DESIGN OF CESIUM-OXIDE CATHODES.

Abstract

Thermal electron emission and photoemission from the different electron levels of an n-type semiconductor are calculated in the theoretical part of the study. Analytical expressions are indicated for the energy spectrum of the emitted electrons and for the quantum yield. The effect of inhomogeneities of the cathode surface on electron emission is shown. Structure and electron emission of the cesium-oxide cathode are investigated experimentally. The findings can be interpreted with the theory and can lead to a quantitative band model.
