SOVIET INFRARED SENSORS. I. THERMAL SENSORS.

Abstract

The object of this report is to review Soviet scientific articles on infrared sensors published from 1960 to the present. The report deals only with thermal sensors. The majority of the articles retrieved pertain to two types of bolometers (metallic and semiconductor) used in conjunction with various infrared spectrometers and spectrophotometers in the near, intermediate, far, and very-far infrared regions. All the sensors have one characteristic parameter in common: minimum detectable power (MDP), which makes it possible to compare sensors operating on different principles. MDP and other parameters, when available, are tabulated and compared for various bolometers and other infrared sensors. The initial search of the Soviet literature was made for the last five years. However, for the sake of continuity, the citation retrieval was carried out back to the 1950's, during which at least one-half of the retrieved materials were published.
