PARAMETRIC STUDY OF ROCKET GRAIN CONFIGURATIONS BY PHOTOELASTIC ANALYSIS.

Abstract

Parametric photoelastic investigations were conducted on two families of star grains. The dependency of the maximum stress on the various geometric parameters has been established and is presented in graphical form. A limited investigation was made on the dependency on N, the number of star points. Results for the positive wedge angle family of grains were obtained. It is shown that the maximum stress is reduced as N, the number of star points, or the wedge angle, is increased. On the other hand an increase in the value of the port fraction or the fillet radius factor tends to increase the maximum stress. Typical applications of the results are given in an Appendex.
