INVESTIGATION OF NARROW LINE ABSORPTIONS IN SINGLE CRYSTAL CALCITE.

Abstract

Single crystals of calcite exposed to gamma-rays and x-rays have been studied by electron spin resonance and optical absorption techniques. A number of paramagnetic defect centers are produced by these radiations some of which are stable at very low temperatures while others are stable up to room temperature. Two paramagnetic defect centers have been tentatively identified as the OH and CO3(-) radicals and extensive data has been obtained on two other centers.
