STUDY OF AN M-TYPE BACKWARD-WAVE OSCILLATOR UTILIZING AXIAL BEAM INJECTION

Abstract

The report reviews the design, fabrication, and testing of a pulsed, reentrant, M-type backward-wave oscillator (BWO). The tube utilizes a crossed- field gun which feeds the beam axially into the interaction region, and thus offers a degree of isolation between the gun and the wave structure. The periodic circuit used in this device is an interdigital delay line. Coupling to the external waveguide is accomplished by the use of tapered sections at both ends of the periodic structure.
