INTERRELATION OF IONOSPHERIC SPORADIC E WITH THUNDERSTORMS AND JET STREAMS.

Abstract

Reports of the occurrence of ionospheric sporadic E clouds from radio amateurs operating on a frequency near fifty megahertz are analyzed on a synoptic scale and compared with the occurrence of thunderstorms and of jet streams. A mechanism is suggested for the observed interrelation between Es and thunderstorms. No definite conclusion is drawn concerning the possible relationship between Es and jet streams. (Author)
