PHOTOCHEMICAL REACTIONS IN THE ALKALI HALIDES.

Abstract

KCl was doped with DS(-) ions by growing the crystal under deuterium in a sealed quartz vessel which also contains some sulphur. The equilibrium, 2D2 + S2 reversibly yields 2D2S, then favours the reaction of D2S with molten KCl. The kinetics of photolysis of the HS(-) and DS(-) ions were studied and also the kinetics of bleaching of the Hi(0) and Di(0) bands (Hi(0) = interstitial hydrogen atom).
